Historic Downtown Hartwell has many fantastic dining and shopping experiences, all locally-owned within a two block radius. Hartwell Suites is located across the street from a coffee shop with specialty market, and close to six restaurants / pubs, art galleries, pharmacies, and several boutique shops.

Lake Hartwell is a man-made lake that sits on the Georgia and South Carolina border. The lake was formed as a flood control and hydropower project by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers over 60 years ago. Three main rivers flow into the lake, which are the Savannah, Tugaloo, and Seneca rivers.


The lake covers 56,000 acres and has over 900 miles of shoreline and provides excellent opportunities to fish, camp, boat, or a number of other activities for those that prefer the outdoors.

Common Ground

Directly across the street from the Hartwell Suites – Common Ground serve coffee, espresso drinks, smoothies, frappes, ice cream, pastries and snacks. Enjoy indoor seating or on their large patio with the fire pit to keep you warm.

The Farmer’s Daughter

A gourmet market and bakery that shares the space with Common Ground – The Farmer’s Daughter serves cakes, cookies, soups, sandwiches and ready-to-eat meals. Here you will also find an assortment of gourmet products and locally-grown produce and meats!

Downtown Cafe

The charming Downtown Cafe offers the absolute best in Greek, Mediterranean and Italian cuisine in Hartwell. They have a variety of dishes to suit your taste. They use only the finest ingredients, freshly prepared in their kitchen daily to create local favorites like their Eggplant Parmesan, Zorba Chicken, Pizzas, and Gyros.

Southern Hart Brewing

Only a block away, Southern Hart is a perfect setting for lunch and dinner. It is also an incredible venue to enjoy, a craft beer, to hangout with friends and watch the game.  With live music on the weekends, you’ll definitely see why locals love Southern Hart Brewing Company.

Little Japan

A newly renovated dining space, there is room for lunch meetings and dining parties with reservations for 5 or more. The hibachi is a crowd favorite and you can ask anyone about their delicious sushi and they will tell you that Little Japan is definitely 5 stars !

Market 50

A downtown sandwich, coffee, and gift shop. They offer delicious, sandwiches, soups, desserts, deli, cheese and meats, jams, jellies, homemade casseroles, soups, local honey, dried fruit and nuts, . They even offer many gluten free options. Market 50 is committed to provide the finest and highest quality products, at prices customers can afford.

Things to Do

Relax

If you want to unwind many of our restaurants provide live entertainment every weekend. Alternatively, the Hartwell Art Center is right around the corner. You can throw some axes at Chuckers Axe Lounge or enjoy a full day spa treatment at Spa by Laura, Beards and Shears Barbershop would be more than happy to give you a haircut or you can visit one of our six hair and nails salons located in downtown.

Get out of Town

Outside of our charming historic downtown there are golf courses and beautiful walking trail in the Botanical Gardens and at Hartwell Lakeside Resort.
